Dale Robinette: Forty Years of Hollywood Photography

On view in Student Arts Corridor from September 25 – November 1, 2025

Dale Robinette has photographed more than 150 movies since 1985, including Donnie Darko, La La Land and Barbie. But behind the stylistic publicity shots are the intimate and candid photographs displayed here. Both on-set and on the streets, his Hollywood pictures juxtapose celebrities and everyday life, larger-than-life imagery and the daily labor of film stars, workers, and residents. Robinette describes the origins of his career in unassuming terms: “as a lad, I rearranged objects…then closed my left eye and peered through a tube at my creation. 75-odd years later, a complicated Sony tube captures what flashes before my mind’s eye.”

PRAx presents Dale Robinette: Forty Years of Hollywood Photography in connection with our Free Film Fridays series, hosted by Distinguished Professor of Film Jon Lewis. Robinette will speak at the screening of Barbie on October 17.
