PRAx and the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Present: Earth, Ocean, Atmosphere: A Special Hour for the Ears Event

What does scientific data sound like in the hands of world-class composers? Come find out at this special edition of Hour for the Ears, an established PRAx program curated by composer and Director of the School of the Arts Peter Swendsen. Held in a darkened Ray Theater, audience members lie on mats on the floor or sit in seats in the middle of the venue. Creative speaker placements offer 20 or more audio channels for immersive digital compositions based on field recordings and research data. These works — heirs of the practice known as “musique concrète” — were commissioned from leading composers by PRAx and the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, using OSU-derived data and recordings. A journey to the frontiers of musical composition, in 60 minutes (seriously!) an Hour for the Ears will transform the ways in which you hear the world.
