PRAx and the DARKSIDE CINEMA Present: Free Film Friday: Monsters
It Happened One Night meets Apocalypse Now in a film The Guardian hailed as “a bedroom blockbuster ... the anti-Avatar.” Shot for $500,000 with a crew that fit in a mini-van, it’s pound-for-pound (dollar-for-dollar) the best sci-fi film produced this century. Shot entirely on location south of the border, Monsters is smart, even prescient about US-Mexico/Central and South American relations — there’s even a wall (and Monsters was made in 2010!).
Our viewing will be followed by host OSU University Distinguished Professor Jon Lewis and his guest, Ana Milena Ribero, Associate Professor in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film and author of Dreamer Nation: Immigration, Activism, and Neoliberalism.
Free Film Fridays is a series of free screenings hosted by Distinguished Professor of Film Jon Lewis, selected to spark discussions across disciplines. Professor Lewis will briefly introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion with OSU faculty experts on the film's topic. Learn more.
