Join us for our Free Film Friday, a viewing of Robot and Frank — where the tagline “Friendship doesn’t have an-off-switch" is catchy...but misleading.
But don’t be deceived. Director Jake Schreier uses the uniquely upbeat film to explore mostly downbeat topics: eldercare, memory-loss, multigenerational family tensions, AI replacing human labor. The film encourages viewers to look towards a future that may not be as bad as many of us fear it will be.
The film stars Frank Langella, Peter Sarsgaard, Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon, Succession’s Jeremy Strong, and Rachel Ma (in a robot suit designed to resemble Honda’s caretaker prototype, ASIMO).
Our viewing will be followed by host OSU University Distinguished Professor Jon Lewis and his guests:
- Kagan Tumer, a professor in the College of Engineering and director of the Collaborative Robotics and Intelligent Systems Institute
- Naomi Fitter, a Kearny Faculty Scholar in the College of Engineering who studies human-robot interactions
