PRAx and The School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts Presents: An Hour for the Ears
Experience a sensory journey of immersive listening under the guidance of composer and Patricia Valian Reser Director of the School of the Arts, Peter Swendsen. Following a 2024-25 season that featured a range of music spanning the early days of electronic music to cutting-edge ambisonic compositions, the 2025-26 season will again provide audiences with novel and evocative sonic excursions.
Join us in a darkened Ray Theater, with flexible seating including pillows and blankets, for this hour-long adventure that invites you to tap into your sense of listening in a way you never have before.
An Hour for the Ears is a profound sensory journey to the frontiers of contemporary musical composition. Experiences feature ambisonic and other creative speaker placements to immerse listeners in experimental music — often featuring high-fidelity field recordings captured from the forest, ocean or everyday life.
Composer and Director of the School of the Arts Peter Swendsen hosts this unique program, which includes contextualizing remarks and time to comfortably emerge from deep listening. Video installation may occasionally be included.
