PRAx Presents: "The Long Walk" composed by Delbert Anderson

Delbert Anderson (Najavo/Diné) is the 2025-26 Teaching Artist-in Residence at PRAx. His unique work The Long Walk is performed over 1,674 days, the duration of the forced relocation of the Navajo people between 1863 and 1868. At the same moment in time on each of 50 dates over the 1,674 days, a single note from the work is played by musicians throughout the world. The piece is a tribute to resilience, honoring the memory and spirit of those who endured the journey.

Please note that The Long Walk is not a performance in the traditional sense. The sounding of the single note for this date (an eighth note, Concert D) will be led by Delbert Anderson at 6:30 p.m., welcoming participants to engage with the moment as a spiritual meditation, a contemplation of history and a metaphoric journey. Musicians, singers and community members are invited to join in sounding the note with their own instruments or to engage in silent remembrance and reflection. A brief program will precede the note, with a reception to follow.
