Indigenous Jazz Series

Beginning in the 2024-2025 season. Dates to be announced.
Artistic Director Julia Keefe (Nez Perce) - director of the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band and a vocalist described by NPR as offering "hope for the future of jazz" - introduces PRAx audiences to the range, depth and variety of jazz performance by Indigenous musicians today. From Mildred Bailey to Jim Pepper and Cab Calloway, the history of jazz music is intertwined with the history, culture and musical idioms of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. This series showcases the contemporary Native performers who amplify and extend that tradition through creative, often boundary-pushing, composition and musicianship.
On select evenings throughout the year, the Edward J. Ray Theater transforms into an intimate jazz lounge that brings the best Indigenous jazz musicians in the country to Corvallis. Sets begin at 7:30 p.m. and 9 pm with food and drink available.
Ticket sales for the Indigenous Jazz Series directly support the booking of Native musicians at PRAx throughout the presenting season. Guarantee your admission by purchasing tickets in advance. Tickets also available at the door.
