Heartwood: Inquiry and Engagement with Pacific Northwest Forests | 2016
Location: Oregon State University Special Collections and Archives Research Center
The exhibit “Heartwood: Inquiry and Engagement with Pacific Northwest Forests” explored the deep and complicated connections people have with forests. Two organizational threads ran through the exhibit. One featured the many terms of engagement with the forest — the forest as habitat, provider, sanctuary, studio, laboratory and classroom. The other showed how these engagements have evolved over time, as represented by a timeline of dominant forest systems, events, issues and legislation.
The exhibit was located on the fifth floor of Oregon State University’s Valley Library and was a collaboration between the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station, and the Spring Creek Project. It was on display from April through October 2016.
