El Khat — a three-piece band led by Eyal el Wahab — plays homemade instruments assembled from the things people discard. Although their detachment from any nation or flag is a driving force behind the group’s philosophy, the heart of their music and heritage remains deeply rooted in Yemeni culture. For El Khat, the constant divisions created by war and migration have given rise to a reassembled identity that resonates strongly through their music. In four albums and appearances around the world, El Khat forges a sound that bridges past and present — keeping Yemeni culture alive while reimagining its future.
