Center for the Humanities Presents: LGBTQ+ Pasts and Futures with Leah DeVun
Join New York-based artist and scholar Leah DeVun as she talks about how her scholarship shapes her creative practice. Her photo series Resemblance depicts her partner, a transgender father, and their son.
In defiance of anti-LGBTQ+ stereotypes about children’s safety with queer adults, Resemblance documents DeVun’s family to show the real people who are affected by the legislative assault on LGBTQ+ rights. These intimate photos ask us to rethink masculinity and vulnerability, as well as what makes a family.
Leah DeVun is the author of the prize-winning book The Shape of Sex: Nonbinary Gender from Genesis to the Renaissance and Professor of History at Rutgers University.
The OSU Portland Center is located at 555 SW Morrison Street. Learn more about the space and parking options.
Resemblance will be on display at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland May 1–31, 2025.
