PRAx and the School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts Present: Music à la Carte presents Sarah Kwak and Cary Lewis
The School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts’ lunchtime “brown bag” concert series, Music à la Carte, relaunches with a new schedule and location in the beautiful Toomey Lobby at PRAx.
Join Oregon Symphony Concertmaster Sarah Kwak and Collaborative Pianist Cary Lewis in a delightful program of Schubert and Bruch.
Violinist Sarah Kwak is an award-winning soloist who has appeared with many orchestras including the Philadelphia and Minnesota Orchestras, the Houston Symphony and the Curtis Chamber Orchestra. She was appointed concertmaster of the Oregon Symphony in 2012. Kwak has performed to critical acclaim throughout Oregon and is a featured artist in music festivals throughout the country. She has served as concertmaster of the Oregon Bach Festival and toured with Asia Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also the founder and executive director of Classical Up Close, a non-profit organization with a mission to make classical music accessible to all by presenting free chamber music concerts in neighborhoods around the Portland, where people live, work and play.
Cary Lewis enjoys a busy career as a collaborative pianist for soloists and chamber music groups. With his wife Dorothy Lewis and Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster William Preucil, he formed the Lanier Trio, acclaimed for performances on PBS’ Saint Paul Sunday. In recent years he has participated in music festivals throughout the U.S. and Turkey, and performed concerts in Australia, SE Asia and South America.
Music à la Carte is presented by the College of Liberal Arts | School of Visual, Performing and Design Arts and PRAx, with support from student fees and a generous contribution from Marlan and Angela Carlson.
