PRAx and The Spring Creek Project Present: The Nature Record, featuring Jane Lubchenco and Jenny Scheinman’s All Species Parade

Join us for the launch of The Nature Record, a national initiative that provides the first holistic assessment of lands, waters and wildlife in the United States. Combining science, storytelling and public participation, The Nature Record brings together scientists, researchers, practitioners and community leaders working to create an accessible foundation for decision-making and meaningful collaboration.

It wouldn’t be PRAx if we didn’t interpret The Nature Record as an invitation to discover a … nature record, an exceptional recent album related to the themes of the initiative. And what a record we found!

Acclaimed jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman and her sextet headline the event with a performance of the All Species Parade, a sprawling, epic work that captures what Scheinman describes as “a charged relationship to nature, a feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves, powerful, yet fragile — and constantly changing. Something alive."

From 5 to 7 p.m., come learn about The Nature Record, including the opportunity to interact with authors, concept leaders and many community organizations whose work reflects its values. The Nature Record originated as a federal project under the leadership of OSU Distinguished Professor Jane Lubchenco, a Deputy Director in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Biden administration. Professor Lubchenco and her collaborators will discuss the history and aims of the project at 6 p.m. in the Ray Theater.

At 7 p.m., we’ll turn to the All Species Parade, as Jenny Scheinman and her ensemble take the stage in Detrick Hall for a marquee performance that will be every bit as grand in scale as its subject.
