Center for the Humanities Presents: Expanding Voices in Science Through Science Writing Pedagogies
Join us for a brown-bag talk by Dr. Sarah Tinker Perrault, Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Writing in the School of Writing, Literature, and Film. Dr. Perrault is a current Center for the Humanities Faculty Research Fellow, and she’ll share with us from her current work-in-progress. We'll meet at noon for her talk, "Expanding Voices in Science Through Science Writing Pedagogies."
Sarah's talk will explore ways to teach scientific writing as rhetorical and ideological — that is, shaped by language and culture — by addressing scientific writing and publishing norms and the ideologies that underlie those norms. It’s relevant for anyone teaching writing, engaging with scientific rhetoric, or thinking about how to bring more student agency into our classrooms.
Please feel free to bring your lunch.
Sarah Tinker Perrault researches science writing, writing pedagogy, and writing across the curriculum. She is the author of Communicating Popular Science: From Deficit to Democracy, and she is now working on a book about rhetorical approaches to teaching science writing. Her articles have appeared in numerous journals, including the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, Composition Studies, and Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, among others.
