Center for the Humanitites Presents: Ted Chiang: The Art of Science Fiction

Science fiction envisions worlds as distinct as the authors who create them. A former technical writer in the software industry, Ted Chiang explores how science fiction dramatizes the process of scientific discovery and imagines new technological futures. He wrote the novella Story of Your Life, which served as the basis for the 2016 film Arrival. His most recent story collection, Exhalation, was named one of the best books of 2019 by both The New York Times and Barack Obama. Chiang has won four Nebula Awards, four Hugo Awards, the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer and six Locus Awards. In 2023, he was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in AI.
