PRAx Presents: Yagódy

“A concert with Yagódy is a ritual ... there is the breathing of the wind in the field, a sound like the voice of our ancestors. The listeners are enveloped in living energy and musical trance. A dance of voices in the pulse of humanity.” — Internationales Donaufest

Founded in Lviv in 2016, Yagódy combines the ancient folk melodies of their Ukrainian homeland with their theatrical training, mastery of Balkan rhythms and exceptional singing. Yagódy considers each song a separate action, a mini-performance that works its way into the ears, eyes and hearts of their audiences. The seven-piece band makes a rare North American appearance at PRAx.

Lightbox Happy Hour: Begins at 6 p.m.

Join us for a glass of wine or beer before the event and explore more about a few Ukrainian and refugee organizations:

  • Portland DAWN: Portland-based organization dedicated to preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage, providing essential medical aid, promoting mental health, and protecting the environment)
  • Corvallis Sister City Association: Established to promote awareness and understanding between the people of Corvallis and the people of its two “sister cities”, Uzhhorod, Ukraine and Gondar, Ethiopia; and to undertake activities that are beneficial to the people of both Corvallis and Corvallis’ sister cities
  • Corvallis for Refugees: Inspired by Salem for Refugees as a community led effort to bring people and resources together to make Corvallis a welcoming place for refugees

Learn from the organizations and enjoy ambient music by two OSU Guitar Ensemble students, Jacob Ripley and Aaron Goyal. Lightbox Happy Hour opens at 6 p.m. in Toomey Lobby. Check out our current visual arts exhibitions to accompany your libations!
